How did I get here? Where am I going?Upon graduating high school I had only one idea in mind as to my future career. I wanted to work with individuals with disabilities. Having extensively worked with both adults and children with disabilities, I began my journey as an Occupational Therapy major while still working and volunteering for various programs serving individuals with disabilities. After a year of discernment, I felt called to a new field of study: Special Education. During my studies and experiences I was able to encounter a variety of fantastic educators and service providers. Upon completing a year of my studies in education I knew it was the major for me but I still was not sold on working inside of a school or a classroom. I branched out to some contacts to explore my options, and finally found a solution. My true calling is to take my educational experiences both through my studies of Elementary and Special Education and to carry them with me to teach not as a traditional classroom teacher, but as a police officer in the community. I have found that in many instances individuals with disabilities have become involved in police matters due to outside influences or momentary decisions. There is a significant lack of knowledge and experience in our police forces when it comes to interacting with these individuals as well as with children. I hope to use my skills and abilities after graduation to benefit the community as a police officer who seeks to connect primarily with children and individuals with disabilities by making a point to have a significant presence within schools and programs pertaining to children and adults with disabilities.
